One of the professions in Ashes of Creations: Fishing! While also comparing them with the other Artisan skills we already know. So, how deep can we get into when it comes to fishing mechanics in Ashes of Creation and other MMO games that have them? Let’s find out.
What is fishing generally in MMOs?
Fishing is the gathering profession you do to get fish. As simple as that. Though as simple as it may seem, fishing tends to branch out into a variety other activities too! Such as deep sea hunting using harpoons and nets. It also goes the attainment of rare items used for other types of content.
Fish is used mainly for food or for cooking in MMOs. World of Warcraft and Black Desert for example makes fish one of the main ingredients for certain buff food which are considered mandatory for optimal play. Therefore, creating a market for these fish will not doubt be included in Ashes of Creation.
However, Ashes of Creation is planning to use fish in a different way as materials to affect other professions such as furniture, potions, and clothing. Meaning, scales and oil may be a source from the fish using other Artisan skills in the process of extraction. Different processing techniques may result in different types of materials that will be extracted from the fish that you collect.
So, the tool needed in Ashes of Creation when it comes to fishing would have to be fishing poles, obviously. In World of Warcraft, these fishing poles are broken into item quality with the better item quality equals to a better and higher boost to your fishing skill.
However in Legion, they have pushed the fishing pole mechanism to another level as they are giving a whole artifact weapon fishing pole weapon for them to obtain: The Underlight Angler. The whole fishing pole itself a whole talent tree for you to conquer and level althorougout and also allowed you to obtain perks that would help you in your future fishing endevours.
Black Desert Online is more focused on their equipments needed on their fishing poles to make them more efficient. There are quite a lot of different types of fishing poles in BDO in which each one serves a specific purpose.
Back in Legion, WoW allowed you to unlock additional cosmetic looks for your fishing rod by completing additional harder achievements.
The Fishing Mechanics
In Ashes of Creation, fishing is broken into two types: Normal Fishing and Deep Sea Fishing. With that being said, there will be no AFK fishing in the game.
For Normal Fishing, it will not require as much interaction and will consist only of interacting with only the school of fish. If you already have your fishing rod, you will just simply interact with the fishing pond or pool then collect the fish from it. A downside to this is that the animation for it is kind of longer than how we want it to be.
As for Deep Sea Fishing, Intrepid has confirmed that they will have a mini-game within the game. You will be able to purchase special lures that will allow you to obtain special types of fish from the ocean. There may also be an obtainable special lure that will be able to summon a world boss.
Ashes of Creation is more likely going to use for their deep sea fishing would probably be the harpoon from Black Desert Online which has a unique mini-game in it too. It is where a player has to use their harpoon to hit the fish on the screen in order to successfully collect it.
The last mechanic that we’ll be discussing would be the fishery plots that players are able inside of their freeholds. This is also a way for players to target specific fish as the blueprints obtained are broken into fish types. It is likely not going to be just the one specific fish that you are targeting, but more on the side of multiple fish. Hence, region fish.
The blueprints may turn out being a swamp biome fishing plot, an ocean biome plot, planes, meadows, black forests, and many more. This mechanic exists already in their Garrison Fishing Plot.
